I’ve not managed to get out on the bike as much, and have been mainly hiking, and when I have been on the bike its usually to do my work commute.
So last week I was thinking I would record my journey to or from work, but out of sheer coincidence Martin from the one more cyclist channel did exactly that. Links to both his video and channel will be in the description so you should definitely check it out. Still I decided to carry on and record my journey in, which is also into Manchester. But I got to the morning, and found I hadn’t plugged my go pro charger in so with 8% there was no way I would get the journey in.
So after charging up the battery at work here’s my journey home, normally its quite busy with lots of traffic but for some reason tonight not only was the weather great, the roads were surprisingly quiet and it was a really nice ride home. I was enjoying it so much I decided to take a slight detour from my usual route.
My commute starts just outside Monsall in Manchester, where the keen eyed among you might have spotted the pub from the TV series Shameless. From there I head up towards Cheetham Hill Road where at tea time the restaurants and take aways are in full swing and smell incredible - and make me hungry.
From there we head up along the outskirts of Prestwich and alongside Heaton Park.. We soon cross over the M60 where I’m at my most smug usually passing queues of traffic.
Its pretty much a straight road for miles as from the M60 bridge we head through Whitefield and down into Bury.
Bury has a really small but pretty cool cycle lane system, its just a shame its so small.
After meandering through Bury and past the statue of Victoria Wood I normally head out of town up a long steady slog of a hill, but this time I changed things up and took a detour. Heading behind the big Tesco’s leads me along a series of cycle paths and towards the lovely Kirklees trail which has featured on a couple of my previous videos.
On from there I end up on the Irwell trail which is also a regular feature on some of my videos, up to Edenfield and home.
Commutes normally serve a purpose in getting from A to B, but sometime its nice to just take a detour on a nicer, traffic free route and with a little sunshine what better reason.
Hope you enjoyed sharing my alternative commute with me, thanks for watching and if you wouldn’t mind please hit the like and subscribe buttons below.
Catch you on the next one.
